Over A Billion Recovered Nationwide
Transvaginal Mesh (TVM) Lawyers
If you received a transvaginal mesh (TVM) implant as treatment due to pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI), it’s possible you will suffer or have suffered serious complications.
Though these products have now been removed from the market as requested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), they were previously popular among patients. Some of these implants have not caused any woes. Others have led to severe and painful complications that required additional medical care to fix.
Shrader & Associates, L.L.P. is known nationwide for taking on the companies behind defective medical products like TVM. We’re here to fight for patients and consumers who were misled by the manufacturers of TVM to believe it was a safe and painless treatment option. Every challenge or hardship you faced because of a TVM implant could make you eligible for compensation. Reach out to our experienced team today—we can explain your legal options and help you decide what to do next.
Have You Suffered One of These Complications?
Transvaginal mesh can cause a variety of issues, some more serious than others. A patient’s likelihood of developing complications depends on personal health factors, the surgical techniques and processes used, and the type of mesh implanted. Our attorneys have worked with clients who reported one or more of the following complications after TVM treatment:
- Vaginal exposure (or erosion) happens when the mesh breaks through the interior tissue of the vagina. This may cause dyspareunia (pain that precedes, follows, or occurs during intercourse) and also irritate the penis during intercourse.
- Infection is likely to happen with types II, III, and IV meshes and can occur years after the implant. Patients may experience pain, vaginal discharge or bleeding, fistula formation, pelvic abscess, or other symptoms.
- Chronic pelvic pain can be caused by vaginal exposure or other complications. Even after the mesh is removed, up to 50% of patients may still experience discomfort.
- Groin or thigh pain may occur depending on the placement of a urethral sling.
- Retraction (shrinkage) of TVM can make it difficult for the patient to go to the bathroom and cause dyspareunia)
- Recurrence of POP or SUI might occur as a result of TVM shrinkage if the weak area is no longer covered.
- Buildup of vaginal scar tissue that is less elastic and can cause dyspareunia.
Studies of TVM patients found every type of mesh was susceptible to one or more of the above complications. Such issues can be painful and also embarrassing to discuss. However, because of the immense effects they can have on one’s lifestyle and enjoyment of life, patients who suffered in one of these ways deserve to be compensated.
Transvaginal Mesh Recalls and Your Lawsuit
As of 2019, no TVM products are allowed in U.S. markets. If you received a TVM implant and have not experienced any medical issues, the FDA recommends you continue normal check-ups and inform your doctor if you experience symptoms like:
- Persistent vaginal bleeding or discharge
- Pelvic pain
- Groin pain
- Pain during intercourse
For those who have not experienced side effects, there is no need to undergo a revision procedure. If you have suffered one or more of the above complications, a doctor can help you plan your next steps.
We applaud the FDA’s decision to recall TVM products and want you to know you can still file a lawsuit if you’ve been affected. A recall does not protect a company against claims for a dangerous product.
Let Us Help You Start Your Case
We’ve talked to multiple women who have suffered heavy pain and anguish after they chose to use TVM. If you’ve been affected in this way, we would like to talk to you as well.
Our attorneys can help you identify potential damages you faced such as:
- Medical costs
- Future medical needs
- Lost wages
- Decreased enjoyment of life
- Pain and suffering
Then, we can help you file a claim for compensation. While these products are no longer on the market, your decision to file a suit does matter. The companies that put TVM products on the market without even testing them disregarded the risks to women’s health and well-being. They should have to pay for this decision, to every single woman who suffered because of their negligence. We are here to help you bring them to justice.
Our experienced team at Shrader & Associates, L.L.P. has fought against big pharmaceutical companies before, and we’re not afraid to face them in court if necessary. For anyone who suffered a TVM injury, the evidence is on your side. Ask us today how we can help you get your suit started.
