Are There Any New Treatments For Mesothelioma? | Shrader Law
Get in Touch Today

Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of lung cancer that often develops after exposure to asbestos. Once diagnosed, mesothelioma patients have an average life expectancy of 6 to 18 months.

Given the seriousness of the disease, mesothelioma patients may wonder whether there are any new, experimental treatments that may benefit them when surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation are not successful.

Below, we discuss advancements in the field that may benefit mesothelioma patients.

Mesothelioma Clinical Trials

Several clinical trials are underway to better understand mesothelioma patients’ tolerance for certain drugs that may be used to combat the disease.

These clinical trials will do the following:

  • Investigate the maximum tolerated dose of CBP501 (an experimental drug that kills cancer cells by preventing them from completing the cell cycle) combined with full-dose cisplatin and pemetrexed in patients with solid malignancy that has spread or is inoperable and for which standard care is no longer effective.

  • Evaluate full-dose cisplatin and pemetrexed combined with the maximum tolerated dose of CBP501 in previously untreated malignant pleural mesothelioma patients, or those whose tumor is inoperable.

  • Evaluate the response rate of the patient population to the drug Milataxel, which may be effective in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma patients whose disease returned or progressed after chemotherapy.

Alternative Treatments for Mesothelioma

Researchers are examining several alternative treatments to alleviate mesothelioma patients’ physical and emotional pain. These include the following:

  • Acupuncture

  • Herbal & Nutritional Supplements

  • Hypnotherapy

  • Light Therapy

  • Lymph Drainage Therapy

  • Massage

  • Meditation

  • Personal Fitness & Training

  • Pet Therapy

  • Reflexology

  • Sound Therapy

  • Thermography

  • Yoga
